Queen Elizabeth II

[edit]

I'm not sure what the official threshold is for making this list, but in the aftermath of her death, certain members of the media and in British government have been referring to Queen Elizabeth II as "Elizabeth the Great". There's a part of me that kind of hopes putting it on this list will help it catch on, as it's hard to even imagine a person who died yesterday having the same sort of impact as an Alexander the Great or somesuch.

References:

Not surprisingly, it hasn't caught on. Heck, even Elizabeth I didn't make it, and she was a lot greater. Clarityfiend (talk) 11:05, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I want to add some great peoples more. 1.39.25.1 (talk) 01:23, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 01:29, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can I ask why he is not mentioned? Even the article about him mentions him as Akbar the Great Sutyarashi (talk) 16:34, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

He's there now. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:29, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Dates"

[edit]

The term "dates" used in the table shows the dates of birth and death of each person. Shouldn't we use the dates of reigning or at least add a column for it? Aminabzz (talk) 18:06, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The dates they reigned don't necessarily line up with when they were referred to as "the Great" and not everyone listed was a ruler. Their life also covers when they reigned so it's more inclusive. Adding extra dates seems like unnecessary information. MClay1 (talk) 04:36, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea what that says or claims, but I can find nothing anywhere in English that calls him Bela the Great. Clarityfiend (talk) 11:48, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please look at the bottom of the picture link. Ragadványneve means his nickname. I can show you only Hungarian sources.

You're not getting the point. If he was known as "the Great" in Hungarian, it would have been picked up in English. It hasn't. Clarityfiend (talk) 00:34, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fair, maybe everyone just mistyped it and we don't actually call him that way. Gyalu22 (talk) 08:04, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dates

[edit]

Are the ranges of years given for each entry on this list in the "Dates" column supposed to represent the years during which they lived or the years during which they reigned? StellarHalo (talk) 07:37, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ashoka/alphabetic ordering?

[edit]

I know, I know, WP:BOLD, but I only edit rarely, so I don't quite trust my understanding of wikipedia formatting styles.

Anyway, is Ashoka the Great listed out of order in the Monarchs table for a reason, or is that just a mistake? Default order is alphabetic ascending, except he's jumped a few places. It's stood since the 27th September revision, despite a few cleanup revisions, which makes me pause. Generic Rice (talk) 14:09, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
