Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: High level of IP vandalism. Constant vandalism of the box office and various links.

    Reason: vandalism, suckpuppetry, edit warring 91.152.225.81 (talk) 01:22, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism, ramping in the past week. There is an IP vandal who repeatedly corrupts articles about the Little League World Series, and the article about the 2014 edition is, for whatever reason, the current target of this vandal. The vandal changes IP addresses, so banning the vandal would be welcome, but likely insufficient. As this event happened a decade ago, there are few to none edits being made to it. Dmoore5556 (talk) 02:06, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Plasticwonder (talk) 10:46, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: IP users regularly keep on removing Lithuanian (1, 2) and Polish (3) languages names of this castle which was built at the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Moreover, some IP users seek to Belarusify the names of Lithuanian monarchs (see: same 1st edit and another 4th edit). I suggest to apply protection to this article in order to prevent IP users from editing this article. The removal and nationality-based edits by IP users happens over quite long periods of time, so I suggest to apply an unlimited time protection from IP users. -- Pofka (talk) 11:45, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – The article was previously semi-protected for a week on 19 November due to an IP editor who kept replacing a reliable secondary source with a website consisting of user-generated content. The IP range 92.40.212.0/23 had been blocked for several months, yet the person continued to disrupt the page using a multitude of other IP addresses, resulting in that semi-protection on 19 Nov. However, to this day, those exact same ol' disruptive edits keep happening, from numerous different IP addresses. Time for a longer page protection. — AP 499D25 (talk) 13:13, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Multiple vandalism among new and anonymous users Dushnilkin (talk) 14:03, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite create protection: Repeatedly recreated – Repeatedly created attack page. Killarnee (talk) 14:20, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Reason: Numerous vandalism edits. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Request semi-confirmed protection due to persistent vandalism. Stadt64 (talk) 14:23, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Gunther :  Talk  14:41, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Rampant death rumors (despite potential credibility) on Twitter are causing premature reports of death in absence of reliable primary/secondary source reporting. Semi-Protect until this is clearly resolved. DrewieStewie (talk) 15:25, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 day, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Don't believe what you read on Twitter without outside verification. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:27, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism of the box office. Just 1 day of release and they are putting collections of thousands of crore in the box office. Requesting semi protection for 1-2 weeks.BhikhariInformer (talk) 15:40, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Same issue as in first protection of the page and protection of multiple handball clubs: persistent vandalism about handball club transfers. Someone with multiple IP constantly adds hypothetical (or not confirmed yet) transfers (see ? on each item), by the way without giving the source of the rumour. Maybe those transfers will be confirmed in future, but Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia and not a Crystal ball. + multiple insults: "Are you stupid?", "iar ai aparut ma prostule?" (meaning "You showed up again, you idiot?" in romanian), "mars ma" (x2) LeFnake (talk) 15:46, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent vandalism from Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Demographics vandal using a variety of IP addresses. MichaelMaggs (talk) 16:16, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Given McCarthy's ousting and subsequent retirement, October 2023 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives election currently being unprotected, and how long ago this election was, I don't see the need for this page to be protected anymore. 100.7.34.111 (talk) 23:16, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Protection is too high and it was for sockpuppetry in 2018. It's nearly 2025 now so if it needs protecting just do pending changes or semi-protection but unprotection would be better I think. 147.10.234.99 (talk) 23:19, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Page has beenECP for over half a year now, due to edit warring. The warring is over 2601:601:447E:8B50:E97B:C008:175A:BA98 (talk) 05:16, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
