Harry Potter

[edit]
2001 - The first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, is released, grossing $US 975.8 million, and becoming the second highest grossing film around the world of all time, behind Titanic.
I have restored this to say Philosopher's Stone since the original Bloomsbury book release was titled this, and it was titled this in every English-speaking country except the United States, where it was apparently changed to Sorcerer's Stone so that the American audience would understand it more clearly. This is explained in the article, which is located at Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, rather than Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Since the movie gained more box office revenue internationally than domestically within the US, I have used the International title. - Mark 09:20, 2 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Birthdate of James Bond cannot be confirmed

[edit]

Is there a definitive resource where James Bond was said to be born on November 16, 1924?

In John Pearson's 'James Bond, 'The Authorized Biography of 007', Pearson had the honor of deciding Bond’s birthday as November 11th, Armistice Day. The year he designated was 1920. In Fleming's 'You Only Live Twice', Fleming hints that it is 1924, the year of the Rat.

Halflife 2 release

[edit]

I've removed the release of Halflife 2 several times already...I honestly don't think placing this note here will change anything since the submitters apparently do not look at the edit history and probably won't look at the talk page either before adding HL2 once again...maybe I'm boneheaded and wrong about removing it again and again, but I just don't think the release of an (admittedly cool, admittedly highly-anticipated) game is important enough in the grand scheme of things. Nothing speaks against having articles on HL2, Valve etc., but we should concentrate on the really important stuff on "day of the year" articles. Game releases might conceivably be included here if the game is the highest-grossing game ever or it's a really seminal release (maybe the original Doom qualifies), but the release of just another shooter shouldn't be on here. -- Ferkelparade π 09:24, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Require people to have entries?

[edit]

Charles Turner (cricketer), a "deadly Australian bowler"? Is this vanity or not? It would be easier to say if Charles Turner existed. Should we institute a "if they're not notable enough for an article, they're not notable enough for birth/death info" rule? DenisMoskowitz 20:02, 2005 Apr 19 (UTC)

I'll agree with you that "deadly" sounds pretty vanity-like...I've removed the word from the article. However, I disagree with your requirement for people to have articles - there's numerous people on these lists of births/deaths that presently have no article but definitely deserve one (on this day, Lothar Späth, for example). The existence of a red link might cause someone to create an article, which in the long run is much better than not listing them here at all and removing the occasional questionable entry. -- Ferkelparade π 21:11, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Good point, thanks. DenisMoskowitz 16:52, 2005 Apr 20 (UTC)
I'll add the article when I have more time, but if someone wants to precede me, here is a starting point http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/australia/content/player/7990.html

Born 16th November 1946 (Actress & Model who dated Elvis Presley)

She is not notable enough to include in the Births section. If we added people of as little importance as her, there would we thousands in the Birth and Death sections of every Day article. Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 16:13, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Aircraft

[edit]

The hypersonic x-43 manned aircraft broke the world record for fastest manned aircraft. It's top speed was Mach 9.6 which is nearly 7,000 miles per hour and is currently the world record and was broken on november 16th, 2004 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.114.181.48 (talk) 03:09, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What about the Luke and Laura wedding on general hospital?

[edit]

Even if it was fictional, that was the date and it was also a pretty big event. Just a suggestion.--71.168.108.32 (talk) 22:47, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that it was fictional forbids inclusion, and for it being a big event...there are Countries where General Hospital is not even shown....Lectonar (talk) 10:28, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed--71.168.108.32 (talk) 02:03, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It has to be a real life event to be included. Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 16:13, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Continuing the ongoing effort to reduce the size of the Births and Deaths sections to make them manageable, I'm removing some celebrities with few or no articles in other wikipedias, moving the entries to the appropriate Year in Topic article if they were not already present. This is in accordance with the guidelines. See discussions at Wikipedia_talk:Days_of_the_year. Deb (talk) 12:50, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is a very small stub. Perhaps too short for something to be featured on the Main Page? (And in addition to be short, this seems like a pretty insignificant event... CJ is one thing, but a second edition doesn't seem like a big deal - and the size of the article seems to confirm that. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:17, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MacRae disappearance.

[edit]

The disappearance of Renee and Andrew MacRae appears to have no connection with 16NOV and should be removed. They were last seen on 12NOV.
