[edit]"It is believed to be the most successful rebroadcasting of a Canadian series to American TV. It is among the most popular teen dramas in the U.S., with a fanbase nearly as large as other popular shows of that type (The O.C., One Tree Hill)."
The first of these two sentences doesn't seem implausible, but "it is believed" is a weak way to proprose such possibility. Who believes it to be the most successful rebroadcasting of a Canadian series... and what reason do they have to believe this?
As for the second statement quoted above, I find it hard to believe. Degrassi is a Canadian kids show - popular among young people in Canada and with a cult following among adults elsewhere. It is broadcast on The N in the US. Fox's The OC, by way of comparison, is a massive hit on a major broadcast network in the United States (and broadcast in over 35 countries internationally). How many households in America can even watch The N compared to the number of households that can watch the FOX network? For this reason alone, I think a statement suggesting they have similarly sized fanbases is very questionable. The rest of the article seems great, but without some evidence, I think these two sentences should be eliminated from the article. Scola 06:54, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit]This article is written like a fansite and this section in question is a joke:
A) None of the Canadian series are successful in the US, not this one, not Da Vinci's Inquest, not Cold Squad, etc.. They are never in any prime time slot, they are on in the afternoon or in the middle of the weekend night and half the time it has been moved or not on at all in favor of an infomercial.
B) If it were such a popular show, it would be placed in the schedule accordingly, not as random filler (when no one wants to pay for an infomercial about ShamWow). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.127.228.136 (talk) 19:37, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Spoilers
[edit]I removed the references to recent fifth season events in D:TNG in the D:TNG section, as they explicitly illustrated the events of Liberty's pregnancy and JT's following actions - while these are perhaps issues worthy of inclusion, the names shouldn't be mentioned, in the interest of allowing people who have never seen the show or do not regularly view it to read this page without explicit spoilers (in my opinion the pregnancy section should be cut down immensely as well, or else a spoiler warning tagged onto it.). The reason I did it, though, is that names are not directly linked to the homosexuality, rape, or school shooting issues in the D:TNG section - why should we include names for the most recent events, which are most likely to spoil people? Somewhat profound?
[edit]What in the world does "somewhat profound" mean? As in: "The Degrassi: The Next Generation series has had a somewhat profound effect on the language of its fans in the US..." Has the effect been profound or not? If so, it should be described as just profound. If not, it should not be described as profound at all, but maybe something like "some effect". Kevin Smith...
[edit]This article should be moved to the Degrassi: TNG page as it relates soley to that show and could lengthen the article regarding Kevin Smith in the pre-existing "Rise to Fame" article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.229.204.47 (talk) 14:41, 14 January 2007 (UTC).
- It doesn't relate solely to DTNG. At the top of the paragraph, it describes his love of the ORIGINAL series when he first saw it on PBS in New Jersey and how it made him a fan of the ORIGINAL series when it aired. At the bottom of the paragraph, it notes his continued love of the series for years to come which is reflected not only by his guest appearances on DTNG many years later, but also by trivial references to the show in his movies. Amchow78 04:05, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- Kevin Smith belongs in the Next Generation section for sure. He was a guest appearance there and not in the original series. If he LOVED the original series, WHO CARES. There's plenty of fans of the original series who aren't mentioned in Wikipedia. It should be moved to the next generation, or just be deleted altogether. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.67.39.128 (talk) 19:04, 20 March 2007 (UTC).
- If his fandom was what lead him to become involved with the show, however briefly, then it should me mentioned. Chewbacca1010 23:49, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
The 'Save Parcy' Movement
[edit]This lists the main article as "Degrassi: The Next Generation" but that page doesn't even list anything about this topic. Since this is just about some people on youtube creating a "movement" should it really be listing its main article as the show? Just wondering. Actually, maybe it should be entirely moved to the Degrassi:TNG page? These characters don't even exist in the other "versions" of the show. (Skunkboy74 (talk) 23:03, 7 August 2008 (UTC))
- I say cut it out entirely. It's not sourced, it's not encyclopedic, it's absolutely awfully-written (I can't even understand what they're talking about), it's on the wrong page... it just feels like some teenagers with a Youtube video added their own glamour paragraph. I'll call for a delete. atomicRED (talk) 00:41, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- Already removed it. It's unreferenced, not notable, and Wikipedia is not for things made up one day. Matthew Edwards (talk • contribs • email) 00:45, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

The Degrassi students role plays now, presently
[edit]Since this is all about the Degrassi series I was wondering if I can contribute how the Degrassi students are doing now; Their role play in America/ Canada's cluture today. What do you guys think?Kimsolis (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:47, 15 June 2009 (UTC).
Proposed move.
[edit]This seems to be the primary topic for Degrassi, which currently redirects to Degrassi (disambiguation). I propose moving this article to the primary topic title. bd2412 T 13:24, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- No. It was agreed upon here and here to move this article from "Degrassi". In accordance with WP:COMMONNAME, when most people say "Degrassi" they are not referring to the franchise as a whole, before 2001 they would have been referring to the original TV series, and now-a-days they are referring to Degrassi: The Next Generation, which was actually retitled to simply Degrassi at the start of this season. As a result of this ambiguity, there is a disambiguation page at "Degrassi". I am not able to move "Degrassi (disambiguation)" to "Degrassi", but I was waiting to see if discussion has ended on this, and it looks like it hasn't. If you would like more opinions in a discussion with you, I would suggest restarting the centralized conversation at WT:TV, rather than here. 117Avenue (talk) 22:14, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the links, I'll move the disambig page to the primary title. bd2412 T 03:52, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Next Class is a new installment
[edit]Note how every single article on the web refers to Next Class as a new installment or iteration, instead of a new season. Wheras blogs or other unreliable sources refer to it as a new season of TNG. I don't know if this some error the American sources made, or just the nominal teenage ignorance, but some people really need to check their sources properly! I know I do!

Dates in revamp
[edit]@ToQ100gou: As they are currently, the dates in the new episode table are unsupported. The "OriginalAirDate" parameter in Template:Episode list should be a single date formatted as {{Start date|YYYY|MM|DD}} and a date range is not supported. What ends up happening is that until it's corrected, this article will show up in the maintenance Category:Episode lists with unformatted air dates. My AWB maintenance regex for these would ordinarily strip out the second date to fix it. I know you put a good deal of work in building out the new table, so I didn't want to make a wholesale change. There a couple of possible solutions I can think of, but I think the simplest would be to use the current date ranges and simply change the column/parameter to Aux_1 (which would allow a range date as currently MOS:DATE formatted). Any thoughts on that? ButlerBlog (talk) 15:47, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Butlerblog: Thanks for pointing it out. I did refer to the actual template page several times to make sure I was doing it right. I wanted to add the viewers parameter for the TV movies, but it doesn't appear to support Canadian viewers. Episode tables are indeed very daunting to create, so the date parameter slipped my mind entirely. I'll add your suggestion and see how it turns out. ToQ100gou (talk) 01:29, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Butlerblog: Okay so I've made the changes and they look pretty acceptable. I've also added {{Start date|YYYY|MM|DD}} to each item in the television movie table and I also used Aux2 to add a column for the network each series/TV movie aired on. For some reason, the columns in the TV movie section are in a different order to the series, I don't know how that happened, but I've rectified everything else. ToQ100gou (talk) 01:53, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- @ToQ100gou: That was good work. I made some changes to the movie table so that {{Start date}} is only used once per column. It technically should only be once per row, but I didn't want to "undo" too much - at least yet. The key thing is that it is out of Category:Episode lists with unformatted air dates at this point, so that was the key thing. ButlerBlog (talk) 03:37, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
